✨ Aaron Castillo ✨

BIO:

I was born in Southern California, specifically in the city of Fullerton, in the county of Orange. I grew up around the entertainment industry, starting out as an actor when I was a kid. I wanted nothing more than to sing, dance and act my way to Broadway. I love musical theatre and still have a deep appreciation for it, but I discovered film my first year in college and never looked back. I transitioned into directing and screenwriting in college around 2008. I have been writing and directing for some time now and I am so happy to have found where I belong in the vast entertainment world.

Interview Series

1. If you could live out your WILDEST dream with no fear of failure, what would you be doing?

If I could live out my wildest dream I would be a choreographer. I grew up listening to Paula Abdul, I absolutely love Paula! I remember I would make my family watch me perform to her songs in the living room of our modest 3 bedroom house on Flower Street in Fullerton. I am not sure why I never pursued that dream to be honest, haha. But, that's what I would be doing if I wasn't in film.

2. What is the most memorable, funniest, or craziest thing that has happened to you on your entertainment journey?

My most embarrassing moment I can recall comes from my days in front of the camera, I remember when I got my first role in a SAG pilot back in 2017. I was playing an army soldier. I was believable, to an extent. I remember the director brought in a certified army soldier/consultant to train us to ensure we look like "real soldiers". I found out later that the reason our trainer was brought in was because I was awful! lol. I just could not get the drill correct, I guess I looked a little too "light on my feet" lol and he was brought there to really train just me, haha. I guess I realized that military life just isn't for me.

3. What is the best advice you have received regarding your entertainment journey? And who did it come from?

The best advice I received was from a friend of mine named Elsa. She once asked me a very challenging question. She said, "What's stopping you from going SAG with your projects? Why are you staying Non-Union?". I told her I was scared of going SAG because I didn't think I was good enough. Then she said, "Where do you want to be in 10 years? Still in the Indie Film world?". Of course I replied, "No, I want the big leagues. I'm talented enough for the big leagues." "Then get your ass in them!" she replied.

And here I am now... grinding and working towards the big leagues, producing SAG films and climbing my way to the top!

4. What has been your biggest challenge in the entertainment industry?

My biggest challenge in the entertainment industry has been the 6 inches between my ears. I doubted my ability as a competent director for years. I would hide in the shadows and be ok with just being an AD or producer, never trusting myself to fully lead a team. It took years for me to realize that if it's going to be, it's up to me. I am fully confident now but man, did it take a while to get here. About 8 years to be exact.

5. What advice would you give to someone that was just starting out?

If I was giving advice to someone who was just starting out their journey as a screenwriter or director, I would tell them, "Don't Wait, CREATE". The days of being discovered are over. No one is going to see you walking down the street and offer to sign you and make you a star. If you want this life, you must make your content and position yourself where others will see it. It may take years but don't wait on anyone.

6. If your social media had the power to influence positive change in the world, what would you use it for?

If my social media had the ability to change the world in one way.. man, this is a great question, probably the best I've been asked. I would just want the world to be kind. Just be kind. Kind to the earth, kind to the animals and most importantly kind to each other. I think life can be pretty simple actually, despite how complicated we make it. Love God. Love People.
